smile anay: taking a medicine

Let me give you something to smile about this weekend. The pix above is that of a medicine container which I saw at a friend's desk. Yup, it came from the U.S. of A. complete with the name of the doctor, the patient, details of the medication AND detailed instruction on how to take the tablets. And it is this instruction which gave us a good laugh and it's the reason why it landed in today's blogpost: "Swallow 1 tablet by mouth three times a day".

Just curious, is there any other way of swallowing a tablet? Oops, don't take it seriously, just wanna make you smile this long weekend.

CKC's new gate

Let me give you the artist's drawing (I hope I'm using the right term) of the new gate of Christ the King College, the construction of which has commenced about three days ago. The main feature of the gate would be the statue of St. Francis, the one which stands in front of the CKC Monastery.

This statue of St. Francis of Assisi which is a familiar sight to a good number of Christie Regians will be moved to its new location which is in front of the new CKC gate. (Photo by Bro. Ariel Manga, ofm)

images from the Centennial Celebration: The Grand Centennial Orchestra

It's been more than two weeks since we celebrated the Centenary of the Diocese of Calbayog. There are many "things" worth noting about the celebration. In as much as I would like to tackle on the significance of the celebration, you know the Nuncio's message, Bishop Soc's message, and how the celebration will have an impact on the faithful of the Diocese of Calbayog. But I thought I am not in a position to do that. So I had to pan my sights somewhere.

And I remember how the Cathedral looked like during the event. I may not agree with what they did on the outside of the cathedral, I certainly ADORE how the structure looked like in the inside. I'll be coming up with some blog posts on this as soon as I get the pictures.

The other feature of the Centennial Thanksgiving Mass which I would like to give focus on is the Grand Centennial Choir and Orchestra. It counted as its members (at least for the big day) the CKC-Jose Gomez Symphony Orchestra and Choir, the KITA Parish Choir, the CGS Music Ministry and the LAMRAG Choir.

Here are some pictures of the Orchestra which Henry Puyat took during the Centennial Thanksgiving Mass last April 10, 2010.

images from my old hometown

Let's give ourselves a break. Let me give you something to smile about today.

It's vandalism time (that's the term I got way back in my high school days and we are talking decades ago).

Forget about election campaign paraphernalia, the politicians and their issues or non-issues (what am I saying?), campaign posters and what have you. If I may borrow Capt. Smith's line from the movie Titanic, "it's normal this time of the year" (election year, if I may add).

Vandalism (oh I'm reminded of my high school years, again) and/or graffiti is still the name of the game (well, at least for some people). A few weeks ago, we were in Sabang and look at what I found, somebody was happy enough to "dirty" a clean "pader" with his / or her number. Whew! should I say "it happens"? or maybe it's "I rest my case". Have a nice weekend everyone!

Hmm, in this age of unlimited calls and texts, no message could be more timely :-)

Young Calbayognon to participate in Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in the U.S.A.

A young Calbayognon will have the honor to represent the Philippines in the 2010 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) which will be held in San Jose, California, U.S.A.

Jean Reni B. De Guzman, a resident of Barangay San Policarpo and a graduate of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) - Eastern Visayas Campus will join seven other young people from Palo (Leyte), Tagum City and Cabadbaran City in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair on May 9-14, 2010.

The project which Jean Reni will be presenting together with his teammates Maria Clara Isable Sia and Marc Mapalo is entitled "Use of Natural Flocculants in Mitigation of Harmful Algai Blooms". To put it simply, their project has something to do with an intervention preventing the occurrence of Red tide as the algae aggregates and sinks at the bottom of the body of water (or something to that effect. My apologies, I'm poor with scientific terms and the like).

Jean Reni is 16 years old. He won the First Place in the 13th Intel National Science and Engineering Fair recently held in Quezon City.

a friendly reminder

I came across this reminder, a friendly reminder if I may add, posted on the wall at the Calbayog Pilot School. From the looks of it, the candidates (or is it the people in charge of the candidtes' posters, etc?) are taking note of the reminder. The walls of the said school are still clean, meaning free from the posters and what have you of the candidates.

waiting for Kris

Let me share some pix I managed to take while waiting for Kris Aquino's motorcade to pass by the City Hall yesterday. In case you'd be interested, Kris was in yellow and threw T-shirts (yellow-colored, of course) and trinkets to lucky spectators.

Kris in Calbayog

Kris Aquino was in Calbayog yesterday. Needless to say, she came to town to campaign for her brother Noynoy Aquino. She arrived at the Calbayog Airport at around 10 in the morning and joined a motorcade around the city before proceeding to the Calbayog City Sports Center for a short program. Kris was with Boy Abunda and two PBB celebrities. Worth noting is that Bayani Fernando also arrived in Calbayog yesterday. Mr. Fernando arrived just a few minutes before Kris.

Surely they came prepared. Kris fans or supporters (take your pick) armed with their cameras. (Photo by Henry Puyat)

Vice Presidentiables in Calbayog

Vice Presidential candidate Bayani Fernando was in Calbayog today. With at least five "transformer" trucks in tow, Mr. Fernando campaigned (yup, he delivered his speeches) aboard a truck with his wife Marikina Mayor Marides Fernando.

Last Tuesday, another Vice Presidential Candidate in the person of Perfecto Yasay came to Calbayog. Together with Senatoriable Alex Tinsay, he joined a motorcade in Calbayog before proceeding to Catbalogan.
