Cristo Rey

Today is the Feast of Christ, the King of the Universe. It's a feast every Christi Regian ought to know, or at least be familiar with. At mass this morning, I was with some teachers who recalled the old days when this day was the BIG DAY, a solemnity with the mass, the procession and other activities. Well, es la vida.

Let me give you something which I got from today's edition of the Sambuhay:

Christ, King of the Universe

Christ the King is a feast established by Pius XI in 1925 to affirm our secularized society the sovereignty of Christ. It was celebrated before on the last Sunday of October. However, the new liturgical calendar has placed it more reasonably on the last Sunday in Ordinary Time, as a crown and conclusion of the liturgical year. That means, the end of our Christian journey should be Christ, the king of our life and of the universe.

The feast of Christ the King synthesizes the series of celebrations of the mystery of Christ as Lord, King and Priest, already contained in the celebration of Christmas, Epiphany, Easter and Ascension. Being celebrated on the last Sunday of the Liturgical Year, it presents too, the perspective of the second coming, the universal judgement, the total submission of the Kingdom to the Father so that God may be in all. It is like a seal of the liturgical year which opens to the eschatological hope of the Church, the seed of the reign of God on earth that is directed towards heaven.
