The 1st Sunday of Advent

Today is the First Sunday of Advent. Let me share with you a picture (above) which I got from the EWTN website. Below are some pictures I took at the Cathedral during the 8:00 am mass with Fr. Tony Rosales blessing and lighting the Advent Wreath.

Let me give you something which I got from today's edition of the Sambuhay:

The first Sunday of Advent begins a new liturgical year. Advent means "coming" - the coming of the Lord Jesus. Advent looks back to the past and prepares us to celebrate the feast of Christmas which commemorates Jesus' first coming as man among us. Advent also highlights the present and reminds us of the varies ways by which Jesus comes to our lives. Advent finally points to the future: the glorious coming of Christ at the end of the age, as depicted in today's Gospel.

May we celebrate this season as a special time of God's favor. May it awaken in us a special longing for the Lord's coming into our lives. May the cry of the early Christians be ours as well: "Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!"
