on this site will rise

We were at Rawis Fair Market (RFM) earlier today. And this is what I saw - a billboard announcing the construction of an office building.

. . . the site is directly in front of RFM (pix below)

Patrun Na!

Indeed it's fiesta time. I passed by the Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral earlier today. I saw workmen sprucing up the church. The facade was being given a new coat of paint . . .

. . . in case you don't like the color, no need to worry, the work on the area has been stopped.

. . . the images at the Gethsemani Garden also underwent repair. In case you'd be interested, the said garden is the final resting place the first three Bishops of Calbayog.

. . . a repainting job is also being done inside the Cathedral. Only upon seeing the workers do their jobs while on the scafolding did I realize how big the Cathedral is.

. . . and while the workers do their job inside the Cathedral, the usual "fiesta atmosphere" goes on, thanks (or is it no thanks?) to the Baratillo stalls near the Church.

somewhere down the road 2

This is a continuation of my post last Sunday. Still some more pictures of the sights we saw along the highway from San Joaquin to Calbayog.

Let me give you my shots of the Hibatang River, taken from the bridge at Brgy. Lonoy. Surely it's one place that would be good for kayaking (oops, what do I know about that sport?). Anyway, on the day I took the picture, the river was not in its usual green color, it was kinda brownish, thanks to the rain days before.

... from Lonoy down south to Ipao, we saw this view. Well, I think I have already posted similar pix in a previous blog update which I called Sunday school. Yup, you are looking at the usual Sunday view of motorcabs and motorcycles parked in front of the Ipao Sports Complex which in binisaya translates to bulangan . . .

Well, there are many things many of us can't do without. As I always say, don't take everything (in this blog and in life) seriously. Have a nice week everyone!

Treasure at the Catholic Cemetery

Nope, there is no digging for treasure at the Catholic Cemetery. I was there last Monday. There was not much people at the place, considering that it was Monday afternoon - the day and time when the local priest says mass for the departed.

Anyway, while waiting for my companion I went to the chapel and the history buff in me took a close look at what many of us took for granted or simply ignored - the arch at the main entrance.

So what about it? It is made of bricks and on the center it indicates the numbers "1885". It should be the year the gate or arch was constructed and in a way gives us an idea as to when the cemetery was opened. If the year indicated is accurate, the cemetery or at least the arch is 123 years old. How about that?

Well, considering its age, saying that the cemetery is overcrowded (with dead people, of course) is an understatement.

somewhere down the road

We were at Brgy. San Joaquin today to visit a friend (in other words, nanliwas). We saw a good number of things along the way. And the blogger in me went to work by taking some pictures which I am pleased to share. Don't take everything seriously, some of it are aimed at making you smile.

First to catch my attention was my favorite, the City Forest and Marble Park in Brgy. Malopalo. (pix shown below)

. . . opposite that marble park is the cove which is at the "back" of Malajog Beach which every true-blue Calbayognon ought to know.

Further down the road (or should I say further up north), we were amused at seeing how some barangay folks dried their laundry. Maybe they had so much stuff up for drying after days of rain. I can only say, it happens

Now, this should bring some smile to the regular travelers. Repair work is being done on a good number of portions of the highway . . .

. . . and while those portions (of the highway) are not yet open for vehicles, some of it double as palay drying stations. Again, it happens.

As I said earlier, you do not have to take everything seriously, just wanna make you smile this week. Ciao!
