I went out earlier today to buy some stuff and to treat my niece to her burger and spaghetti at Jollibee. I forgot that it was a day before Christmas, until I saw the crowds and the vehicles and what have you.

Thanks to the rain, I got stuck in a store somewhere along Magsaysay Boulevard for almost an hour. So, mauran ba an Pasko? Mao man an sering san PAG-ASA. As of this blog update, it's still raining.

They have finished putting in place the "belen" at the Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral. For the past so many years, expenses for this undertaking was shouldered by Dr. Mary Fulgencio. As of today, the images of Mary and Joseph are in place. Don't look for the baby Jesus yet. Ss tradition would have it, the image will be placed by the Bishop during the Midnight Mass while the choir and the faithful sing Gloria in Excelsis Deo.

King and Elvie

Ariel Aquino and Elvira Lastimosa will get married today. Fr. Marcelo Tubac, ofm will preside over the wedding mass at the San Damiano Chapel in Christ the King College. Reception will be held at the Calbayog Cultural and Convention Center.

The CBCP Year of the Youth

This tarpaulin greeted the faithful who attended the Misa de Gallo today. It's an announcement of the CBCP Year of the Youth which runs from December 16, 2010 to December 16, 2011.

Aside from CKC, there is another institution - a financial institution - which has the Nativity Scene as its Christmas decor. For the past few Christmases, Rural Bank of Calbayog has the "belen" installed (am I using the right term?) in front of the bank premises.

Halad sa Pasko 2010

We were at the Nijaga Park stage yesterday. It was for the "run-through" of the Opening Program for Halad sa Pasko 2010. This annual Christmas festival which is being spearheaded by LGU-Calbayog through the City Arts and Culture Office will feature nightly shows at the Nijaga Park and the giving of gift to the less-fortunate Calbayognons in some interior barangays of Calbayog.

An "belen" sa CKC

In keeping with the Franciscan tradition, Christmas trees and images of Santa Claus are nowhere to be found at the CKC campus. Fr. Mar encouraged the CKC community to have the Nativity Scene instead. And one "belen" did they put in place at the entrance of the San Damiano Chapel. One thing worth noting is the inclusion of the image of St. Francis of Assisi in the "belen". The patron saint of ecology was after all the one who initiated the tradition of the "belen"

While waiting for the arrival for the wedding entourage during a recent wedding, I looked around and noticed the baptistery of the Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral. It's located under the bell tower. I understand the parish has stopped using the place for baptism. They have been doing the ceremony either at the sacristy at the sanctuary. The baptismal font is still in the area WITH the various images of saints both new and the old or antique pieces.
